Trying to find information on some of the more elusive theatrum machinarum authors is proving difficult. I'm quite interested in Errard, Bachot (especially le Timon), and Zeising (why does he always feature individuals in the foreground?).
Luckily I have found great references. Errard and Bachot figure heavily in Verin's La gloire des ingenieurs and Zeising has a whole chapter in Beck's Beitrage zur geschichte des machinenbaues. Notice any problems with these works?
That's right: they're not English! French I can sort of handle but German!?! How many languages does one have to learn in pursuit of a PhD? Babelfish will only get me so far.
